Gibson Achonu, Owerri

The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has said he will not allow himself to be provoked by some politicians in the state.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, and made available to The  Punch, he said the state government had read the report about the protest in Abuja by those he described as “the personal rag-tag aides” of the make-ups of the coalition group of the All Progressives Congress.

The statement read, “We have also read another publication equally by a motley group known as Imo Stakeholders talking about a vote of no confidence. Those in the sick coalition are also those who constitute the stakeholders”.

Onwuemeodo urged Nigerians to ask the groups why their activities took place in Abuja. He alleged that they took the stolen materials for the Imo State congresses to hotels in Abuja and were filling them there when the police arrested four of their aides.

He urged Imo indigenes to remember that in 2011, Araraume was the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, while Chief Ikedi Ohakim, the incumbent then, was the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, but that Rochas Okorocha took the All Progressives Grand Allaince’s ticket and defeated them even as Chief  Araraume came fourth and lost in his Isiala Mbano Local Government.

“Imo is calm. These folks make a lot of noise in Abuja and sneak into Imo to avoid the wrath of the people. By 2019, the picture will become clearer for Nigerians to appreciate the magnitude of the love of Imo people for Rochas, who has reduced the poverty level in the state from 57 per cent in 2011 to 19 per cent in 2017”, the statement read.
