As part of activities winding up its Leaving a Lasting Legacy year 2017/2018, Inner Wheel District 911, Nigeria, organised a one-day workshop on “Safety Precautions in Schools” for Ogudu Junior High School, Ojodu Junior Grammar School, Babs Fafunwa Millenium Senior Grammar School and Babs Fafunwa Millenium Senior Secondary School in Lagos.
In her address at the event, District 911 Chairman, Mrs Adegbemisola Rufai, said the programme was important as too many cases of accidents, child abuse and kidnappings have been recorded in schools in recent times.
One of the resource persons, DSP Balikis Adebola, the DOC of Ojodu Police Station, said parents must establish a good relationship with their children/wards, while schools should thouroughly screen the background of any potential employee.
On her part, Director of Lagos State Safety Commission, LSSC, Mrs Ronke Oduneye, noted that Lagos State government has zero tolerance for crime against children and has a data base of all paedophiles. She added that all schools must have a safety policy.
