IPOB members with leaflets saying ‘No Election in Anambra’ arrested

Abuja – Troops of 144 Battalion, of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army under 82 division, have successfully liberated a notable pastor and General Overseer of the Victorious People’s Assembly, Aba Branch, Barrister Michael Okwundu Onyeka after storming the dreaded forest of Ngboko in Aba general area.

Information available to security agencies had it that the General Overseer was abducted last week, on Friday by suspected kidnappers.

Also, troops of 144 Battalion acting on intelligence reports, swooped on a hideout of suspected members of the outlawed group, Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and arrested three members in possession of leaflets and flyers with ‘No Election in Anambra State’ inscription which are considered a threat to the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming election.

Making these disclosures in a statement, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa said, “Following the kidnap of the General Overseer of Victorious Peoples’ Assembly, Aba Branch, Barrister Michael Okwundu Onyeka on Friday the 10th of November 2017, a tip off received from a good Samaritan indicating the possible location where he was held”.

“A patrol team of 144 Battalion of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army combed the bushes of Ngboko General Area on Sunday the 12th of November 2017 where Barrister Michael Okwundu Onyeka was successfully rescued.

“No arrest was made as the culprits took to their heels before the arrival of the troops. Efforts are being made to apprehend them.

“In a related development, three suspected members of the outlawed IPOB group have been apprehended for possession and sharing of leaflets and flyers with “No Election in Anambra State” inscription by 144 Battalion patrol team at Alaoji Fly Over, Aba General Area on Sunday the 12th of November 2017.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that those arrested are Mr. Chidiebere Nwaona 35 years old, Mr. Nwagbougwu Okeke 55 years and Mr. John Nwaogazi 50 years old.

“The suspects, leaflets and flyers have been handed over to State Security Services Abia State Command for further action.

“Similarly, a joint patrol team of 145 Battalion Rear and some personnel of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) had based on credible Intelligence, raided identified hard drugs black spots in Umuahia axis on Saturday the 11th of November 2017, where large quantity of substances suspected to be cocaine and Indian hemp were recovered, and three suspects were arrested.

The suspects and the exhibits have been handed over to NDLEA for further action.

In a related development, three suspected members of the outlawed IPOB group have been apprehended for possession and sharing of leaflets and flyers with “No Election in Anambra State” inscription by 144 Battalion patrol team at Alaoji Fly Over, Aba General Area on Sunday the 12th of November 2017.
