LEADERS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, have appealed to founding members and those who defected to opposition parties to return and work for the success of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all candidates of the party in the 2019 general elections.

Speaking separately at a meeting of the party at Ozoro, the chairman, Prince Godwin Ogorugba, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Leo Ogor, Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Tim Owhefere, pioneer Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Emmanuel Okoro and others, stressed the need for members to put aside their differences and work together.

Ogor said: “It is very important we acknowledge that many of you founded the party in the local government, and because leadership is turn by turn, you left the party for us to lead after your tenures.

“In the course of our leadership over the years, we may have offended some of you knowingly or unknowingly by our actions and inactions. We are therefore using this opportunity to apologize to such members and encourage them to come back to the party, the house we built together.”

Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Tim Owhefere urged party faithful to work in unison, saying “only in unity the party can win elections”. He added that Governor Okowa was determined to bring democratic dividends to all parts of the state.

On his part, the chairman of the party, Prince Ogorugba said the party would uphold democratic principles in the conduct of its primaries, saying, “We have assured all members who defected to other parties in the course of our conflict that they should have the confidence to return to their original party because we are not going to victimize anyone as a result of that.

“We are reaching out to the former members that left the party for one reason or the other and to the aggrieved founding members because everyone is important to the party; PDP remains the people’s party.

“The party will allow a level playing ground for all members, we have vowed that there will be no imposition of candidates in any election. Every member, no mater your status, will be allowed to exercise his or her democratic rights. All we are after is to come out with the best candidates that will fly the flag of the party in subsequent elections.”
