Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has summoned Darlon Security Services owned by an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, accusing it of threatening the peace in the state since the last election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Assembly had invited the Chairman of the security firm, David Lyon, over allegations of security breaches and threat to peace in Southern Ijaw Local Council.
However, the security firm saw its invitation as politically motivated, prompting Lyon to finger Governor Seriake Dickson and Speaker of the House, Friday Konbewie Benson, as being behind the move.
But in an attempt to douse tension yesterday, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) supported the security firm, describing the allegations against it by the state House of Assembly as false.
Lyon, an APC chieftain and strong ally of former Governor Timipre Sylva, is believed to be nursing governorship ambition in the state next year.
A statement by IYC Chairman, Abule Titus Buna and Secretary, Ijaw Youths Council Clan Chairmen’s Forum in Southern IJaw, Anki Bestman, noted that the Assembly’s claims of stockpiling arms by the security outfit were false.
The statement added that peace and stability had returned to the council area since the firm began operations, adding that they would not be part of attempts to criminalise the company.
But a member of the House of Assembly, Bernard Kenebai, insisted that there was the need to checkmate the activities of Darlon Security Services in the best interest of the state.
