PORT HARCOURT- Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, and Niger Delta Artisan Association, have pleaded with the Federal Government to create jobs for the teaming youths of Niger Delta region in order to put to an end restiveness and oil theft in the area.

The bodies also charged youths of the region to stop attacking oil installations, adding that violence approach is not a better way to achieve development.

They spoke in Port Harcourt Saturday at a one day workshop organised by the Niger Delta Youth Front and Total Exploration Production Limited tagged; ‘Curbing Youth Restiveness in the Niger Delta through Leadership and Entrepreneurship Training.’

Speaking, Mr. Henry Iyalla, the spokesman of IYC, and one of the conveners, stated that constant attacks on oil facilities and illegal oil bunkering in the area were driving away investors.

He called on youth to engage in meaningful ventures that would better their lives to be able to approach the perceived marginalisation of the region through dialogue.

Meanwhile, Comrade Eminence Seinabieso, the President of Niger Delta Artisan Association, cautioned the FG and oil companies operating in the area to sincerely pay attention to the yearnings and demands of the people for peace and growth in the region.

Seinabieso opined that the region would continue to experience youth restiveness if FG fails to address the marginalisation of the Niger Delta people through job creation, youth empowerment programmes and vocational trainings.
