Junior Achievement Nigeria, JAN, says it has so far trained 690,000 entrepreneurs, reiterates commitment to train additional 331,000 to bring the number to 1million by 2020. About 50 participating students are expected to be trained in the next edition of the camp.
Speaking, the Senior Programme Manager for JAN, AbiodunAdegbola at a press conference to herald the annual LEAD CAMP of the organization, said that JAN which operates in 29 cities across Nigeria, has trained 690,000 entrepreneurs. This explains the feasibility and close reality of JAN’s curious drive to bring the total trained entrepreneurs to 1million in the next 3years, as it remains only 310 trainees complete the round.
She went on, the camp is an avenue entrepreneurship programmes and mentorship are impacted in prospective entrepreneurs, where already empowered participants showcase their achievements through JAN. She said that the main focus of the camp is for the empowerment, development of youths particularly student so that they can be self-reliant.
This they will achieve through series of entrepreneurship and mentorship programmes, such as, Junior company competitions where various already empowered students come from their different schools to showcase what they have produced aided by Junior Achievement programmes earlier attended; and LEAD CAMP annually organized, where similar programme is held, but this time, focused more on infusing in females the confidence necessary for self-achievement.
AdaezeOputa, the associate Director of programmes, maintains that JAN may not equip the participants materially but provides them means of procuring those requisite materials that will enable them build and ultimately actualise their resourceful and expand their latent potentials.
Meanwhile, Mariam Tijani, a secondary school student who participated in the 2016 LEAD CAMP, praised JAN, saying, ’by attending the LEAD Camp 2016, I now believe in myself as poised to make it in life, having linked with people that I ordinarily could not have met, thereby broadening my horizon for self- fulfillment’’.
