K1, Shina Peters, others charge young artistes to promote indigenous language in music

k1Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1, has lamented the neglect of true culture and tradition of Yoruba language.

K1, made the statement during the 2018 edition of the Round Table Talk with the theme: “Evolution of Yoruba Traditional music and the influence on modern Nigerian pop culture”, an event organised by Goldberg at Park-Inn by Radisson, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

However, commended Nigerian Breweries for promoting Nigeria’s culture and its heritage as well as the entertainment industry.

“I want to charge everyone to see it as a priority to be proud of promoting our indigenous language both in the education curriculum and in the music sector. We must not be ashamed of projecting our culture and language to every part of the world. Also, I want to charge the young artistes to ensure that our indigenous languages reflect in their works, as they will make music more rooted and accepted culturally,” K1, who was one of the panelist stated. stated.

Other panelists at the event tagged: Ariya Repete, included Sir Shina Peters; Grammy Award winner, Lekan Babalola; Mr Muyiwa Osinaike; Professor Olawole Fadipe; the Executive Director of Music and Culture FM,, Mr Clement Ige; Jawon, Wole Sorunke (MC Murphy), and Hakeem Adenekan.

The conference was graced by notable musicians including Taye Currency, popular actor, Odunlade Adekola; Wale Thompson, among others stakeholders.

His counterpart, Sir Shina Peters, noted that the real reason he raised the bar of Juju music was part of his innovation to unify the country and it main languages.

He said: “I am proud to project the indigenous languages and our culture through my music and I want to urge the younger ones to take a cue from this as it will save our culture and tradition from going into extinction.”

The Executive Director of Music and Culture FM, Mr Clement Ige, said that lack of tracing the root of the evolution of Yoruba traditional music and learning about the history of music is one of the major challenges that could be a threat to our culture and tradition, while he encouraged all music stakeholders to see the need to trace its root and see music as an influence and development.
