Chairman, Kano state Council of Prerogative of Mercy, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Sheikh Ahmad and five other persons were said to have been abducted from the same vehicle at gunpoint on Thursday along Sheme-Kankara expressway in Katsina State.

They were all members of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, a Northern based Islamic propagation movement.

Director General, Media and Publicity, to Kano state government, Aminu Yasir confirmed the kidnap.

Although Aminu did not have the full detail of the development, he, however, confirmed that Kano state government was in contact with Katsina state government and security agencies to ensure their release.

The national chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, JIBWIS, Sani Jingir, has told journalists that the victims were on their way to Sokoto State from First Aid Camp in Dutse, Jigawa State.

Jingir explained that the abductors had stopped the vehicle conveying them on the high way and ushered the five victims into the forest.

“Our members were coming from the First Aid Group camp from Sokoto state on their way home, they were kidnapped after they have left Jibiya in Katsina State before they entered Zamfara State,” Jingir said.

“The kidnappers peacefully stopped them, took them out of their bus, before moving them into the bush. Their bus was abandoned and we were able to retrieve it.”

Jingir said the kidnappers have contacted him or the family.

Only this week, a Lebanese Engineer with Triacta Construction Company, Sagir Ahmad, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on site Dangi roundabout in Kano. The expatriate was whisked after the driver was shot dead at the spot.

Sagir’s lifeless body was found in a bush along Maiduguri road, Kano 48 hours later.
