The Kwara State Government has said that it invested over N11bn in infrastructure across the state between December 2016 and December 2017.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr MuideenAkorede, stated this during a media briefing in Ilorin, alongside the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Mohammed Sabi, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, AlhajiAbdulwaheed Oba, on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.

Akorede explained that the amount was invested under the government’s special funding window tagged:Kwara Infrastructure Development Fund.

He said N4.97bn was spent on existing projects, while N6.07bn was expended on new ones.

The SSA also said the projects captured under the Kwara Public and Private Partnership Bureau was the branding and repositioning of Kwara Hotels.

He added that the Hotel would be benchmarked against best practices.

According to him, Novotel and Ibis will handle the project under the Accorde Hotel Group.

He said, “The state government will retain the ownership of the hotel but will offer Kwarans the opportunity to be part owners through a crowdfunding arrangement.

“This arrangement will be 100 per cent local content and is expected to create over 1,500 indirect local jobs for artisans, 500 jobs for professionals and 182 direct jobs after completion.”

Sabi stated that the council also considered requests from experts on the upward review of contract sums for the Diamond split underpass, Kulende-UITH-Oke-Ose and Ilesha-Baruba-Gwanara roads projects.

According to him, the council after thorough deliberation on the experts’ advice, decided to approve the upward review of the cost of the underpass from N2,930,847,252.06 to N3,639,444,659.04, making a difference of N708,597,407.33.
