The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) at the weekend threatened to mobilise her members nationwide to shut down banking operations of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) across the country over what it described as illegal restrictions of the union accounts.

The union leadership has therefore written to the Management of the bank and security agencies warning if the bank failed to lift the restriction on its accounts, it will be forced to picket all branches of the bank across the country.

In a letter addressed to Managing Director of the Bank through the regional manager in Abuja, dated March 14, 2019, the union said the action of the bank has prevented her from performing financial obligations to the staff and members of the union.

The letter signed by the Assistant General Secretary and Head of Department, Organising and state councils affairs, Comrade Nehemiah, explained the union is asking its members to picket/occupy the bank offices by Monday 18th March 2019.

The letter, which was also copied the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Inspector General of Police (IGP) and President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), warned the picketing/occupation of the bank premises nationwide would remain until the restriction on its accounts is lifted.

It reads: “You will recall that the illegal restrictions was placed on our accounts 0264323757 and 002550244 since January, 2019. This restriction was placed without any valid Court order.

“Since then, all efforts by us and intervention of Nigeria Labour Congress in her letter dated February 12th, 2019 have not yielded any positive response from the bank.

“Your illegal restrictions on our afire-mentioned accounts have caused this union serious embarrassment as we can no longer meet our financial obligations to our staff and members.

“Consequent upon the foregoing, we are left with no option than to mobilise our members across the 36 states and FCT to picket and occupy all GTB offices in their state capitals with effect from Monday, 18th March, 2019”.
