This year’s Lagos International Motor Fair and the related Autoparts Expo, will hold at the Federal Palace Hotel, from April 24 to 29, and April 26 to 29, 2017, respectively.
Announcing the dates recently in Lagos, the organisers of the annual concurrent exhibitions, which will be marking their 12th and 6th anniversaries this year, gave the joint theme for the events as One Expo; Continental Spread.
According to the Managing Director BKG Exhibitions Limited, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Agwu, who is also the Chairman of the organising committee for the event, the focus was influenced by the determination of the organisers to catalyse activities in the autoparts sector as a means of helping to fast-track the development of Nigeria’s automotive industry.
“In this edition, as we have been doing for some time now, we will promoting the auto parts section by seeking to make Nigeria become the hub of the business in Africa. We want to make it a real take-off point towards the realisable of the goals of the automotive policy,” Agwu said.
He called on the Federal Government to lay more emphasis on spare parts manufacturing in place of assembling, arguing that the former is where the real technology transfer takes place.
“The Autoparts Expo segment of the event is doing well and we are looking at involving a lot of countries in West and Central Africa in this edition. This we have kick-started by extending invitations to players in the auto parts business in those countries to visit the fair. We are aiming at using the Nigerian auto parts market as the hub of the sector’s business in Africa”.
