LASG says industrial policy review’ll be all-inclusive

The Lagos State Government has said it is currently reviewing the industrialisation policy to make it more inclusive and representative of the needs of the real sector.

The need of the real sector is at the forefront of its consideration as Lagos State continues review of its industrial policy.

The state Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mr. RotimiOgunleye, disclosed this during a programme to mark the Africa Industrialisation Day.

He added that the law on land grabbers to protect property owners and allow easy access to land for business and other purposes had been approved by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. AkinwunmiAmbode.

“Perfection of titles on property transactions has been made easier and faster,” he said.

The theme of the programme was given as ‘Financing Industrialisation in Africa: Challenges and Strategies’.

Ogunleye said, “We have predicated our development plans on four parameters, comprising economic development pillar, infrastructure development pillar, development and security pillar, and sustainable environment pillar.

“In line with the need to continue to promote the manufacturing sector, the state government recently approved the commencement of the harmonised inspection of factories,” he said.

Ogunleye said the Lagos State’s economy had been adjudged the fifth largest in Africa with Gross Domestic Product of over $131bn, adding, “The Lagos State Government shall continue to address the issue of improved business environment through the provision and application of factories that are within our mandates.

“We must start developing strategies that will reposition the sector to produce that good that will be competitive in the global market.”
