Mr Solomon Bob, a lawyer and Governor Nyesom Wike’s aide has disagreed with President Muhamadu Buhari, who said at the opening of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, annual conference in Abuja on Sunday, that national interest supersedes rule of law.
Bob said, “President Buhari, seeking to double down on lawlessness, has demanded that the rule of law be subject to national interest. What is national interest? It’s an indeterminate term which is open to capricious abuse as we’ve seen in the last three years.
“That the president chose the occasion of the opening of the Bar Conference in Abuja to make such a comment says a lot about the abysmal depth to which the Bar has sunk and the contempt with which it is held. Lawyers who sat through that inanity without a whimper of objection need to take another look at themselves. Of what benefit is a cowardly Bar?”
