Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has announced plans to set up a one-stop shop in some states where farmers in Nigeria can have access to agricultural consultancy services, farming equipment and inputs.
The firm announced this at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday.
Mahindra & Mahindra, a part of the $20.7bn Mahindra Group, said the project would be executed in collaboration with channel partners in Nigeria.
In his presentation at the media briefing, the Group International Operations, Nigeria, Mr Arvind Mathew, noted that the project was part of the company’s efforts to scale up and expand operations in the country.
He said the firm planned to offer customised and focused solutions in the areas of agriculture and farm-tech prosperity, mobility and power generation to farmers.
“The idea behind setting up local operations is to partner and collaborate in the growth opportunity that the market presents and empower the communities with robust and global business insights and solutions,” Mathew stated.
Mahindra, along with Springfield Agro, launched the Farm-To-Folk initiative in collaboration with the Katsina State Government. Under the initiative, the company has provided end-to-end farm mechanisation solutions to develop the agriculture and farming ecosystem through tractors, implements and gromost centres, Mathew said.
He added, “This initiative is now being extended to other states in country. Nigeria is among the largest markets and economies on the African continent, and presents very strong growth prospects. We have been working steadfastly with our channel partners, Springfield Agro and VIP Merchandise, to ensure that we deliver innovative solutions to meet the needs of the community here.
“The Farm-To-Folk initiative empowers farmers from every region and capacity, driving farm-tech prosperity. We have also introduced a specially designed three-wheeler for Nigeria – the Alfa – a unique product with increased passenger/cargo capacity, providing improved earning potential for owners. We will continue to up the ante on technology and innovation to offer solutions in Nigeria that will drive positive change.”
