A 29-year-old man, identified as Anthony Omotoso was on Wednesday docked before an Osogbo Magistrate Court over the alleged theft of a pair of shoes and N4,000 cash at Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo.
The suspect was arraigned on a 3-count charge of stealing, intent to commit felony and breach of peace before Magistrate Falilat Sodamade.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Jafani Muslim informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on July 10, 2018, around 3.00 pm at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, in Osogbo.
According to him, the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by hiding in the hospital toilet, adding that he subsequently gained entry into the Department of Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) of LAUTECH with the intent to commit a felony.
Jafani further alleged that the accused stole a sum of N4,000 and a pair of shoes worth N15,000, being properties of Dr Allem Noble and Mrs Ojo Morenike.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to all the three count charges, just as his counsel, Barrister Najite Okobe pleaded with the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal and affordable term.
Magistrate Sodamade granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in the like sum, saying such surety must be resident in within the court’s jurisdiction and also provide evidence of three years tax clearance certificate with a valid means of identification. The matter was adjourned to August 2, 2018, for mentioning.
