All roads led to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state secretariat in Osun State, last Tuesday, as massive crowd of supporters and admirers greeted the declaration of Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a former Managing Director of Mutual Benefit Assurance, for the PDP governorship ticket.
Ogunbiyi, who made his intention known during his visit to the party’s secretariat, had been supporting PDP even before nursing the ambition for the state number one position, and, when the rumour became rife he was interested in the PDP ticket, many political watchers were of the opinion that the best man for the job may be showing up at last.
The insurance expert, amidst large number of supporters, during the visit, said his intention to govern Osun was borne out desire to salvage Osun from total collapse which attracted a thunderous applause.
In a display of rare philanthropic gesture, Ogunbiyi gave full scholarship award to the son of a former image maker of the PDP in the state, Mrs Iyabo Olusola, who died recently after a protracted illness.
Breezing into the Osun PDP secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital, in a long convoy of the Ford model cars, which was later commissioned by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, the governorship aspirant also donated a sixty seater bus to the state party secretariat.
He also announced the donation of 46 brand new vehicles to the party.
Ogunbiyi, who said leadership is about service, urged his fellow aspirants to allow the corporate interest of the PDP predominate over personal ambition, adding that, if he wins the ticket he would return Osun, to the path of economic prosperity without plunging the state into unnecessary debts.
Responding, the state PDP chairman, Adagunodo, lauded the philanthropic gesture of Ogunbiyi and noted that he had been a consistent financier of the party, recalling that he was deeply involved in the reconciliation process that saved the PDP from collapsing during the intra-party crises which lasted two years
