Obviously irked by the ‘shoot-on-sight’ order by President Mohammadu Buhari against electoral fraudsters, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned the Nigerian military to stay clear of polling units during the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

A statement issued by the MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, and made available to our correspondent reads: “We condemn the position of President Mohammed Buhari on his presidential order that the military should shoot at civilians exercising their civil rights.”

MASSOB said it viewed the president’s order to the military as wild desperation and frustration of his APC-led government.

He noted that the party had failed woefully and claimed that it contributed much to the socio-political suffering of the citizens.

According to the statement, “we earlier informed our people that the primary mission of Operation Python Dance phase 3, is to align and work with INEC to rig the elections in Igbo land in favour of APC.”

But despite the order, MASSOB and other pro-Biafra groups have urged their members to massively participate and exercise their civic rights on election day.

Madu said: “We assured our people that nobody will intimidate them on election day. The Nigerian military has no constitutional rights to appear at the polling units on election day.

“MASSOB also reminds the people of Biafra about the atrocities and genocidal killings of our people by President Mohammadu Buhari through his rampaging Fulani herdsman. We still remember the genocidal killings of the people of the Middle Belt, mostly in Benue, Plateau and Taraba states by same rampaging Fulani militiamen.

“MASSOB also wishes to remind the people of Biafra to be soberer and conscious of Biafra because these elections will pass by with heavy political earthquakes in Nigeria,” the statement said.
