The Nigerian military is fighting a global insurgency without commensurate external assistance from a strong force like the United States that battled ISIS in Syria and Iraq, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has stated.

Speaking at the launch of a national campaign in support of the Army yesterday in Abuja, the minister averred that the nation was yet to receive the Super Tucano aircraft procured for the anti-terrorism war due to what he described as “international politics diplomacy.”

He observed that what the military was not contending with a homegrown Boko Haram group but various global terrorist organisations “which have now converged on us.”

The minister claimed that a faction of the Boko Haram sect had aligned with the global terror group, ISIS, to form the Islamic State’s West African Province (ISWAP).

He added that ISIS now has a strong foothold in West Africa, with Nigeria in the forefront of the battle against them.

The Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. John Agim, like the minister, sought support from Nigerians in the execution of the war.

He therefore called on the media and the citizenry to rather appreciate the gallant troops instead of disseminating information that could dampen their spirit.
