A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni has written a letter to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC Reconciliatory Committee, over the lingering internal crisis rocking the party in Lagos State.

Mumuni, in a letter which was made available to the press on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, expressed displeasure over what he described as marginalization of former members of the defunct CPC in the APC.

A copy of the 2-page letter, with the title “Re: Appeal for Justice, Fairness and Equitable Participation in the Administration of All Progressives Congress (APC) and in the Government of Lagos State by Members of the Party” was received by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Mumuni recalled that before the formation of APC by the erstwhile ACN, CPC, ANPP and some members of PDP, he was a strong member of CPC in Lagos State and a candidate for the post of Governor of Lagos State in the 2011 elections.

According to him, it has been observed since 2015 with a lot of dissatisfaction, disaffection and unhappiness that former members of CPC in Lagos State and South Western States of Nigeria who are now APC members have been marginalised and abandoned after the successful elections in 2015 by the administration of the party and by the government of Lagos State.

Mumuni lamented that APC and its government in Lagos State are being run by former ACN members in the party, to the total exclusion of other members of the party who were from CPC and other parties that merged to form APC.

The statement read in part; “For instance, there is no member of the defunct CPC in the State or Local Government Executive of the APC. There is also no member of the old CPC in the APC in the Senate, House of Representatives or House of Assembly of the State, or who has been appointed as a commissioner in the cabinet of the Lagos State Government.”

He said, in the recently concluded elections into the 20 Local Government Councils and 34 Local Council Development Authorities, no member of the former CPC in APC was considered for the Chairmanship of any of the Local Governrnents/LCDAs.

He added, “My colleagues in CPC, as well as others in the other parties and I have been deliberating on what to do about the marginalisation of our members in APC, but was relieved when the President of Nigeria and leader of the party, Muhammadu Buhari called the National Executives of the party to order on the proposed tenure elongation of executives of the party at all levels and recommended that the party should hold its congresses at all levels to appoint new executives.

Mumuni is optimistic that Tinubu, as an uncle and the leader of the ruling party, will maintain justice, fairness and equitable participation in the administration of All Progressive Congress (APC).

“As a leader of this great party, it is my respectful view that this is an opportunity to right the wrongs that have been done to members of the defunct CPC now in APC in the administration of the party. To do otherwise is an invitation to internal crisis in the party, which we in Lagos State cannot afford,” he concluded.
