The Senior Pastor, Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, waxed emotional on Saturday at the funeral of his centenarian mother, Abigail Bakare.

Bakare’s mother died at 108 at his Lagos residence on May 5, and she was interred at the family house in Sodeke, Abeokuta, on Saturday.

Bakare, while giving the vote of thanks at the funeral held at the Victory Life Bible Church, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, noted that his late mother was a great influence on his life and what he became later in life.

He said his mother was an intercessor who prayed for him all the time, especially when he went into politics briefly in 2011, running as the vice-presidential candidate to President Muhammadu Buhari.

With his wife, Layide, standing beside him, the cleric said his mother’s exit meant that a part of him had gone.

He said, “I am grateful to God that Mama did not die while I was outside the country. It was a pact between us that she would die while I am in the country.

“I returned to the country from the United Kingdom on May 4, and Mama passed on May 5, 2018.

“Mama carried a heavy load of intercession for me. I will definitely miss her. It’s like a part of me is gone. She was a great cook.”

Prominent personalities within and outside the country joined the Bakare family to bid their matriarch farewell.

Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, attended the ceremony alongside Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; All Progressives Congress national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, his wife, Olufunso; the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola; and Chairman, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
