Akinkoye Mobisola, popularly known as Cornerstone, is one of the raves of the moment gospel music ministers in the gospel music industry. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, she speaks on why she dumped a white-collar job for music and her vision for the industry. Excerpts:

When did you discover your penchant for music?

I discovered my passion for music from my childhood; so I joined the church choir at seven and since then music has been part of me. What gave me inspiration was the day I sang at my church as a young girl. The congregation was moved by my ministration. This made me to love music more.

At what point did you take it up professionally?

I took it up professionally two years ago after rediscovering my talent under the ministry of my father in the Lord, pastor, the visonary of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Gbaremu Centre, Pastor C.A. Olaiya. Although, I ought to have taken it up before then, but I needed a stable income, so, I engaged in a white-collar job where I was well paid to the extent that I ignored God’s ordinance to do His work. I had to succumb after serious warning by the Holy Spirit. The experience has been awesome, though there are still some challenges, but I am confident of what God has placed in my hand. It is an assignment I must accomplish diligently.

How has it been since you started?

At a point it wasn’t easy combining music and my job. Then ,I was into marketing research, which involves travelling most times. It usually clashes with my musical appointments. I had to quit my job for my divine assignment. I thank God for giving me the grace to push on my music career. I derive joy, peace and fulfillment as a song minister.

How would you assess the gospel music industry?

It is a great joy to be in the garden of such people because it is only in the garden of the children of God that lives can be transformed. I want to impact lives through inspirational songs from the Holy Spirit. I want to use my music to liberate lives, and win souls for Christ. However, with the talent embedded in me by God, I strongly believe that God will, ake a way for me. I want to use my talent to help youths discover their purpose in God.

How prepared are you for the task ahead?

I am fully prepared, because the bible says: “I can do all things trough Christ that strengthens me”. There is also this saying by my father in the Lord that “Always live ready, not get ready”. So, I am ready and prepared to impact the industry and the world with the gospel of Christ.

What has been your greatest challenge?

One of the major challenges is financial support. There are several inspirational songs that the world needs to hear, but lack of funding is a problem. Spreading the gospel through music is my motive, but I found out that in the gospel line great talents with great vision are not being supported financially as compared to those who sing secular music.

How many songs have you produced?

As I said earlier, I have a of songs, and I am planning to release them officially. Besides, I have performed several at events and ministered in different churches.

Where would you like to see yourself in the next five years?

I see myself in greater heights. I see myself sitting with the kings and queens. I desire to have a cordial relationship with great ambassadors of Christ such as Mama Bola Are,  Evangelist Bukola Akinade aka Senwele Jesu, Evangelist Temitope Alabi, Sola Allyson Obaniyi, Uncle Yinka Ayefele, Uncle Kayode David-Oyewole, Tim Godfrey, Nathaniel Bassey, among others.
