The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has destroyed an Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists camp at Zanari in the restive northern part of Borno.

NAF said in a statement in Abuja on Saturday that the raid was conducted by the air task force of Operation Lafiya Dole.

Nigeria has waged a relentless war against insurgents, fighting to enforce a strict Islamic code in the West African country since 2009.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who signed the statement, said the operation was conducted on Wednesday.

“The destruction of the camps was achieved on Feb. 20 in air strikes conducted sequel to intelligence reports indicating that the terrorists were using the settlement as a staging area from where they launch attacks against own ground troops locations.

“A NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, which was subsequently detailed for confirmatory surveillance over the area, observed considerable terrorist activities in the settlement.

He said the ISR platform called for the scrambling of two Alpha jets to attack the camp in successive strikes, resulting in the destruction of several structures as well as the neutralisation of their ISWAP occupants.

Daramola said that NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, would sustain its efforts to completely destroy all remnants of the terrorists in the North East.
