NCC restates commitment to youth empowerment

ABUJA—The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, says it remains committed to  empower Nigerian youths through the deployment of digital Information Communication Technology facilities to revitalize the economy.

The Executive Vice Chairman of  commission,  Prof Umar Danbatta made the revelation  at  an award by African Achievers Award, AAA, which rated NCC as the Organisation of the year.

Danbatta, said the Commission is ever ready “to building human capacity through its digital association programmes for tertiary institutions.”

He said: “The Digital Association Programme for Tertiary Institution is a programme intended to build human capacity in the university on how they can leverage the power of information communication technology in content delivery in the University.

“This is consistent with digital transformation that is going on all over the world and Nigeria cannot be an exception. We  are deploying information technology in key sectors of the economy among them education in order to encourage informed learning and teaching in our tertiary institutions,” he said.

According to the commission’s boss,  the basis for the recognition “is centred on the Commission’s effort in transforming the telecommunications sector and it is poised to continually protect the telecom consumer.

“Our efforts have transformed the telecommunications industry in this country, the basics for the recognition is based on the way and manner we have empowered and protected the consumer.”

“The recognition rhymes with an important item in our 8-point agenda which is all about empowering and protecting the consumer while engaging the consumer directly through consumer town hall meetings, consumer paliaments and through the 2017 campaign as the year of the telecom consumer.

“We have remarkable results arising from this campaign the level of activation of the Do Not Disturb facility which lies on activating the number 2442 has climbed from half a million before we started to almost 10million level of resolution of complaints through the NCC team resolution mechanical available on our website”, he said.

Earlier in his address, the Principal Partner AAA, Rex Idaminabo, explained that “the award was based on the organization’s integrity, he commended NCC for maintaining sanity in the telecom industry and for ensuring consumer satisfaction he called on other government organisations to emulate them.”
