The Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kano, Malam Iliyasu Ahmad, says 100 youths would benefit from the Federal Government’s Empowerment programme on Vocational skills in the state.

Ahmad disclosed this on Friday in Kano while briefing the beneficiaries on the importance of the exercise.

He said that 70 women and 30 men would undergo the training in four different areas which include Computer training, GSM repairs, furniture and soap making.

Iliyasu said the training for the first batch would last for three months while the second batch would come later, adding that each of the trainees and the trainers would be paid N5, 000 allowances monthly.

He said that directorate would monitor the trainees to ensure that they adhere to rules and regulations at the learning centres.

The coordinator warned that any trainee absent from the training would be disqualified or denied allowances.

He said expressed optimism that at the end of the exercise, the trainees would be self reliant and would assist in reducing over dependants on their parents, relatives and friends.

Ilyasu also said that it would assist in reducing criminal activities in the society, especially the high rate of drug abuse and snatching of cell phone.

He called on the trainees to use the opportunity given to them to improve their lives and that of others.

Malam Ibrahim Yola, a trainee, commended the NDE for the gesture and appealed to other trainees to use the opportunity towards moving the state and the country forward.

According to him, if such opportunity was sustained, unemployment and drug abuse among the youth would be a thing of the past.
