The International Centre for Tax Research and Development will be launched on Thursday (today) in Lagos.
The Founder/President of the research centre, Mrs. Morenike Babington-Ashaye, said in a statement on Tuesday that the launch would be marked by a keynote address on the importance of taxation in nation building.
She said Governor Akinwunmi Abode of Lagos had been selected to give the keynote to declare the research centre open for operation.
This, she said, was in view of the Lagos State Government’s interest in taxation and the use of taxpayers’ money judiciously.
According to Babington-Ashaye, Ambode will be supported by Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, who is sending a delegation owing to the need to attend the coronation of the Akarigbo of Ijebu-Remo.
Leaders of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture; the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria are expected at the event.
The ICTRD president said the body offered to support the government in the area of research and development and the provision of information for effective use of taxpayers’ money and formulating efficient policies and imbibing modern tax administration practices.
“The centre will also assist in taxpayers’ education and also help organisations in ensuring that they obtain a fair deal in the tax system,” she added.
