Nigeria @ 57: No parade inside Aso Rock as Buhari heads for Maiduguri

The usual Presidential Change of Guard Parade the Federal Government has been organising since 2011 to mark the nation’s independence anniversary did not hold on Sunday.

The parade featuring soldiers attached to the Brigade of Guards normally holds at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has left Abuja for Maiduguri, Borno State where he is scheduled to celebrate the anniversary with troops fighting terrorists in the area.

Buhari had at 7am addressed Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast. He had in the broadcast reeled out his administration’s achievements in the last two years and restated his commitment to a united Nigeria.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is scheduled to lead other top government officials and friends of the nation to an interdenominational church service holding at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja in the afternoon.
