… As Rivers Utd, Rangers clash
By Paul Erewuba
Rangers and Rivers United will today at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt lock horns in match day 12 of the Nigeria Professional football League (NPFL).
Rivers United are expected to go into today’s encounter with a win at the back of their mind as they have been without a win in the last five league games and have managed to score only twice within the period.
The Stanley Eguma-led side will be hoping for a repeat performance of the corresponding fixture last season when they dazed the high flying Rangers 3-1 but were trounced 4-0 by Rangers in the reverse encounter.
Today’s match is a battle between two Rivers State-born tacticians who have earned rave reviews in the past few years following the exploits of their teams.
At the moment however, both teams hover just above the relegation zone with Rivers United having same points as 17th placed Wikki Tourists while Rangers are a point better and sit on 14th spot.
Matches involving Rangers and Rivers United are always crackers and this one will be no different.
One of Rivers United’s new sign on Nzube Anaezemba is already talking tough ahead of today’s encounter.
“Since I joined Rivers United, everything has been amazing and we are ready for Rangers.
The former Rising Stars of Akure prodigy also toed the line of his manager, Stanley Eguma by affirming they cannot afford to take anything for granted against Rangers today.
“It is always a tough game against Rangers. I played against them (for Rivers) at the Super Four and I know how difficult it can be. We cannot afford to take anything for granted.”
In the same vein, Daniel Etor who now plies his trade with Rangers expects a very good game and better result than what the Flying Antelopes got in Port Harcourt last term.
“It is going to be tough no doubt because both teams are struggling a little bit in the league but I am confident we will get a positive result in Port Harcourt.”
In Kano, Pillars will host Enyimba in another clash of champions at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Pillars approach the tie brimming with confidence as they have been impressive in their last four matches, with two wins and two draws.
However, same cannot be said of Enyimba as they have not recorded a victory in their last three matches, losing two and sharing the spoils on an occasion. Also, they boast of only one win from their last five topflight encounters.
