The Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation (NPPF) on Wednesday urged its athletes to ensure total compliance with the rules guiding the usage of the newly renovated gymnasium.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has outlined measures on the usage of the power gymnasium in the National Stadium, Lagos.

The rules stipulate that there should be no fighting in the gym and that any defaulter will be suspended for six months with a fine of N10, 000 as a punishment.

Athletes must be accompanied by their respective coaches or instructors before gaining access to the facility for training, while the hall and conveniences must always be kept neat.

The National Coach of NPPF, Are Feyisetan, said that the rules had been incorporated as part of their moral talk which was observed on their training days.

“The guidelines are clearly pasted on the entrance wall for everybody to see, but as the national coach I go the extra mile to resound these rules.

“I have widened the scope of my programme which extends to morale talks where I remind them of the penalty for not keeping to the regulations and they are abiding.

“Besides, we know what we went through before Peak Milk came to our rescue on this gym, so, we have every reason to maintain the facility,’’ he said.

He said the gym was open for use but restricted to athletes and coaches that were familiar with how to use the facility and ready to comply with the directives.

According to him, measures have been put in place to monitor activities of the gym users as the body will not accommodate users that will dent the image of the body.

“The equipment are the latest, it takes an athlete or coach that is acquainted with how to apply it to enjoy the benefit which I think the rules are made.

“We are the main users of the gym and we have to protect our name and image, that’s the reason we have monitors to checkmate other users,’’ he added.

The coach thanked the sports authority for the measures, adding that it would go a long way to maintain the gym and ensure discipline. (NAN)
