The new President of the National Association of Air Transport Employees, Ben Nnabue, has said he will fight to end workers’ vicitmisation in the industry.

Nnabue, who made this known after his election, said NUATE under him would resist concession, casualisation and job losses in the aviation sector.

“The welfare of workers will continue to remain paramount,” he said.

He added that the union had declared emergency in the conditions of service in the next one month in aviation parastatals.

According to him, a four-point programme of leadership, security, welfare of members and financial autonomy has been mapped out for the union.

Nnabue also stated that the new executive planned to engage estate valuers to develop the union’s property at the airport and construct a 45-room hotel.

“This will enable the union not to rely on dues but also on internally generated revenue for self-sustenance,” he stated.

He said among other plans, a new means of communication among NUATE members across the country would be introduced to keep members informed of the union’s activities.

Nnabue defeated four other contestants to become the new president of NUATE for the next four years, at the union’s convention held last week in Asaba.
