The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka and the University of Ibadan have emerged champions of the men and women categories of the first phase of the maiden edition of the National University Games Association, NUGA 3×3 Southern League powered by the AMK Foundation.
Both schools proved too tough for the other eight universities that competed for honours at the outdoor courts of the University of Lagos.
In the women’s category, the University of Lagos girls had a hard time containing their opponents from the University of Ibadan that triumphed 5-4 to win, but the same was not the case in the men’s final as UNILAG had a revenge, beating the University of Ibadan19-10 to emerge winners.
UNILAG men’s team thus leads University of Ibadan, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Benson Idahosa University and Enugu State University of Science and Technology while for the women’s category the University of Ibadan girls will lead UNILAG, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka alongside UNIZIK and ESUT to compete for honours in the national finals slated for March 3rd and 4th, 2017, in Abuja.
The two-day event played on the modern synthetic half court provided by the AMK Foundation had 10 schools in attendance representing the South-East, South-South and South-West regions of Nigeria.
Secretary General of the Nigeria University Games Association, Bola Orodele described the event as gratifying given the fact that NUGA had been inactive since 2012.
