Kaduna—National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, has pleaded with the executive and legislature to embrace statesmanship in place of brinkmanship as a precondition for sustainable democratic process in the country.

Speaking at the unveiling of the 40th Anniversary Logo of the union in Kaduna, it General Secretary, Issa Aremu, said: “Addictive conflicts between the legislators and the Federal Executive will undermine good governance and democracy.”

Aremu, a governorship aspirant in Kwara State, said Nigeria’s uninterrupted democracy in the last 20 years need quality people that will stand for fundamental state principles of good governance as contained in 1999 Constitution in place of “politicians desperate for immediate pursuit of power and money.”

Referring to the recent drama at the National Assembly, Aremu said the survival of the “smartest politicians” must give way to survival of democracy.

Earlier, NUTWN President, John Adaji, said the 40th anniversary will hold from Tuesday, October 16 to Thursday, 18, with rallies, lectures, exhibitions, fashion parade and a gala nite/anniversary awards in major textile cities of Kano, Kaduna and Lagos.
