Chairman of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Aisha Falode has warned that any club that misses three matches, would be thrown out of the league which kicks off March 25. Aisha who spoke after the NWFL congress in Abuja on Wednesday said the league board would come hard on any club that is walked over three times. “We have told the clubs that they must honor their games. If any team misses three games, it would face outright expulsion from the league,” Falode said. Meanwhile, the Congress agreed on a two-group format abridged league strictly for the 2016/17 season.
The 16-team format will be made up of eight teams each. Group A is made up of reigning champions, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, FC Robo, Sunshine Queens, Heartland Queens, Ibom Angels, Abia Angels and COD Ladies while Group B has Nasarawa Amazons, Delta Queens, Osun Babes, Saadatu Kolo Amazons, Confluence Queens, Adamawa Queens, Pelican Stars and Edo Queens. The star match of the opening season will be between Bayelsa Queens and Ibom Angels. A Super Four tournament will be used to determine the eventual champions of the top-flight.
