The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has trained no fewer than 1,226 of 2018 Batch ‘C’ stream I corps members on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme in Gombe.

Mr Ukwenya Owoicho, Assistant Deputy In-charge of SAED disclosed this at the exhibitions and closing of the programme at Amada Temporary Orientation Camp in Akko Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

He said that the entrepreneurship programme was introduced by the Federal Government to educate the corps members how to become self-employed and create jobs.

According to him, having degree certificates is not enough to earn a living, as they need to be taught on how to be self-reliant.

“When we started the programme most of them were not interested because they were graduates and see no reason to learn how to make shoes, food processing and other skills alike.

“But thank God we were able to convince them in line with the present situation in the country.

“And today I am very happy in the sense that within few days they learned how to make things and they are selling it in the camps to make money,” he said.

He advised the corps members to take the programme serious as Plan B apart from their certificates.

“In case your Plan A fails to work, you should apply the Plan B to succeed in life and to become job creator instead of job seekers.

“This training is an added advantage to you, because if you take it serious you can make more money,” he said.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator, Mr David Markson, said the Federal Government jobs would encourage the need for them to apply the training.

He said the application of the skills would help them to be self-reliant after the NYSC year.

“This training will help you at the end of the day, no need to wait for white collar jobs that are no longer there.
