Oba of Benin tasks NIS on strategies to check cross border crimes

BENIN—THE Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has charged the Nigeria Immigration Service to set up security strategies that would check illegal migration of armed men and terrorists who cross borders illegally and arms smuggling across the nation’s borders.

The Benin monarch gave the charge when he received the Assistant Controller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Zone G, Mrs Didi Adaeze, and top officers in the zone at his palace in Benin City, yesterday.

The Omo N’Oba noted with seriousness that the palace was collaborating with the state government to turn away the youths from illegal migration and trafficking to self- employed ventures and agro businesses.

He added that the Export Free Zone proposed for Galegele in Ovia North-East Local Governmrnt Area of the state and others, including the proposed industrial estate to be established across the  seven local government areas of Bini Kingdom,  would check the menace of illegal migration and trafficking.

He disclosed that he was keenly monitoring the activities of youths and the various traditional and community leaders across communities in Edo South senatorial zone to ensure investors’ confidence.

The visitor,  ACG Adaeze, had earlier intimated the Oba  that she was at the palace to pay homage as well as to seek  his royal blessings.
