The Ogun State Government, on Friday, elevated 26 coronet Oba to Part II status and 14 Part II to First Class monarchs.

The elevation, according to the state government, became imperative as a result of the vast development of various towns, in terms of population, infrastructural and economic viability.

Presenting the promotion letters to the monarchs in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jide Ojuko, explained the elevation was part of government’s commitment to the welfare of traditional institutions in the state.

He noted that the selection, appointment and elevation of traditional rulers were guided by the Chiefs Laws of Ogun State, adding the promotion was an indication that Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led government was responsive and took welfare of traditional rulers seriously.

Ojuko, advised newly promoted monarchs, not to encroach on one another’s domains, stressing they should continue to consult with their respective traditional councils, cooperate and encourage their subjects to foster peace and unity in the state.

“I wish to use this opportunity to inform you, particularly, those in the First Class category, that your upgrading has not in any way enlarged your domain beyond the present scope”, he submitted.
