The Ogun Commissioner for Education, Mrs  Modupe Mujota, says the state government will partner with the United Nations International Development Organisation (UNIDO) on skills acquisition for its  populace.

Mujota said  this in Abeokuta on Friday while addressing UNIDO’s National Project Coordinator, Mr Francis Ukoh,  and members of  the Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN)   who visited her.

She said that the proposed partnership would cover areas of logistics such as venue, curriculum development for  training and resource persons.

Mujota said  government’s support for  the initiative was borne out of its interest in promoting skills and vocational acquisition among the people.

She said the establishment of the Institute of Technology, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, and investment in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) through the state–owned Science and Technical Colleges were all  to promote skills acquisition.

The commissioner charged ASVAN to identify its members in the various trade groups  to ascertain their numerical strength  while training  would be tailored toward  their peculiar needs.

The commissioner also commended UNIDO for being a positive reference point  on issues bordering on entrepreneurship and skills  development.

In his remarks, Ukoh commended the state  government’s initiatives on  skills  acquisition and  pledged  the organisation’s support.

The Chairman of  ASVAN, Mr Adekunle Shodamola, also commended the state  government for its support.

He expressed optimism that the social status of about 400 registered members of the association would improve at the end of the training initiatives.
