The campaign train of the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, was under attack, on Wednesday, at Ibeshe, Yewa North Local Government, leaving two seriously injured.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta by the Director of Media and Publicity, Gboyega Isiaka Campaign Organisation, Bolaji Adeniji, that the victims were shot and in critical condition.
Adeniji described the development as a sad one few hours after the Deputy Inspector General of Police (South West), Oshodi Agboola, held a meeting with political parties on the need to shun violence and embrace peace before, during and after the elections.
The spokesperson of the GNICO, therefore, called on heads of all security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
The statement said, “The attack this afternoon, at Ibese in Yewa North LG area of the state is a sad commentary on the state of worsening security and state of politics in Ogun State. It all started with the destruction of our billboards and adverts materials.
“Now it has progressed to dangerous physical attacks. We do not know who is afraid of the growing popularity and acceptability of GNI. We urge our opposition to work hard and test themselves at the polls, rather than resort to attacks and antisocial actions.
“We hereby call on the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, the State Director of DSS and other security agencies to look into the root of this matter and apprehend the perpetrators; as a deterrent to others.”
The campaign organisation requested more security cover for Isiaka, his family and supporters while urging its supporters to remain calm and avoid reprisal attacks on the suspected agent of the masterminds of this evil deed.
