MEMBERS of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday, kicked against an alleged imposition of the candidate of the House of Assembly representing the area, saying the action would affect the fortune of the party during the next general election.
The stakeholders who stated this in a statement signed by some leaders of the party from the local government said the call because imperative to save the party from losing the area to the opposition during the general election.
The statement signed by the APC Chairman in the local government, Hon Joshua Eleti, former party Chairman, Pa Nathaniel Babalola, former member Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Isaac Ayeyemi, and Hon Dele Babalola, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Akure North, made available to newsmen in Akure condemned the imposition of one Abiodun Faleye over the choice of Dele Ologun
The stakeholders maintained that the primary election into the House of Assembly which was conducted under a free and fair atmosphere was won by Ologun but expressed their dismay over the turn of events where Faleye was imposed on the party.
They called on the leadership of the party in the state to always consider the interest of the members of the political party and the general populace in choosing who to represent people at the helm of affairs rather than imposing an individual on the people and party.
They urged the state leadership of APC to correct the injustice done to members of the party in the area by replacing the authentic winner of the party primaries for the State house of Assembly slot.
They emphasized that the candidature of Dele Ologun was well supported by all the members of the APC and the people of the constituency as he enjoyed grassroots support being a grassroots mobiliser.
They urged the party leadership to reconsider its stance by doing the needful in the best interest of the people, the party and the 2019 general elections.
The statement added that: “If not corrected, opposition party may take advantage of the alleged imposition of Faleye who is not too popular in the area and with some questionable credentials.
“We hereby frown over the alleged imposition of candidature purportedly cancellation of the primary in Akure North local government, this is not acceptable and the result of the primary should stand but the result of any other thing will not be palatable.
“The election was held under peaceful atmosphere and there was no reason for the imposition of an unpopular candidate for the election.”
The stakeholders expressed their support for the National and state leadership of APC led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Engr Ade Adetimehin.
