The Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) taskforce has arrested a suspected militia kingpin around Barkin Ladi and Jos South local government areas of Plateau State.

According to the Taskforce Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu, the suspect, Timothy Zakka Dung aka Timaya was arrested by the taskforce’s Special Operations Team with one of his cohorts, Joel Sunday, at a football pitch following three months of painstaking intelligence work.

“Recently, he disguised as a football enthusiast within Plateau with claim of searching for football talents among youths. However, OPSH believes that the sudden change of identity as a football enthusiast may be for recruiting more foot soldiers and stooges to perpetuate more crime especially as the political frenzy heats up,” he said.

Agundu said the suspect, who had unleashed a reign of terror across Plateau and perhaps the North Central region since 2001, was eventually arrested after having adopted varying styles to evade possible identification.

He said, “Information had revealed that often times he disguised as a woman and was also seen wearing different styles of haircut and most times he is usually seen with a beard.

“The suspect uses a motorcycle as a preferred mode of transportation from one locality to another in spite of having fleet of cars and has no permanent place of abode.”

When asked to comment, Dung, who is from Fan District in Barkin Ladi, admitted to be a notorious cattle rustler but said it was a crime he only ventured into a year ago.

He said he was not responsible for any killing, adding, “I have stolen cows of Fulani like 100 but don’t worry about the way people are just going about spoiling my name, I have not been killing people.”
