Our Mumu Don Do: Charly Boy, Adeyanju end partnership

A crack in “Our mumu don do” movement being led by ace music star, Charles Oputa, otherwise known as Charly Boy, widened on Wednesday, with the sudden resignation of Prince Deji Adeyanju, a key member of the group.

His resignation came a few weeks after Adeyanju returned from incarceration, having spent almost three months in Kano prison.

Adeyanju, in a brief statement released in Abuja, said: “‪I have resigned my membership of ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement. I no longer have confidence in the leader of the movement, Charles Oputa, otherwise known as Charly Boy.

“He betrayed the course of the movement while I was away in prison and compromised with our oppressors.”

He, however, declined further information on specific areas on the alleged betrayal by Charly Boy.

Adeyanju was said to be a critical member of the movement and had significantly contributed to the success of the body, especially in raising public awareness on happenings in government.

Charly Boy, Deji Adeyanju and other like minds had successfully held several protests at Unity Fountain and elsewhere in Abuja against the Nigerian government and other perceived corrupt individuals in government.

They however attracted global attention when they organised a daily sit-out in Abuja to demand the return or resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari, who had spent over three months in London hospital then for an undisclosed ailment.

When contacted for reaction on the allegation, Charly Boy, laughed out loud and said that was his reaction to Deji Adeyanju allegation.

Meanwhile, a member of the movement who pleaded anonymity said that crack in the movement began before the 2019 general elections and it had to do with largess.

The group member said that both leaders were suspicious of each other and also accused each other of secretly hobnobbing with different politicians for selfish gains.

In addition to that, the member said that Adeyanju was obviously unhappy with the treatment he received from Charly Boy and other group members while he was away in Kano prison.
