A large number of public primary school children have yet to benefit from the free meal initiative government. Those in baby class and primary one to primary three have been enjoying the scheme. Schoolchildren from primary four to primary six are not among those who are enjoying the free meal. I think all the students should benefit from the gesture.
The Oyo State Ministry of Local Government should be allowed to look into how these pupils are being fed. The free meal initiative is a good programme. It provides relief for poor parents who cannot afford to provide lunch for their children. Children who have taken free meals will listen attentively to their teachers in class.
In the mean time, the salaries of their teachers should be paid regularly. We can’t expect the teachers to be teaching primary school pupils of the Oyo State Government. The programme was sponsored by the Federal Government on empty stomachs. The state government should do everything within its power to renovate schools. The government is expected to employ brilliant teachers in public primary schools in the state.
Since government is feeding its pupils, the next thing is to give them sound education and nothing more. If the government gives children meals without sound education, it won’t bring any positive results.
