BENIN—EDO State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, of using scarce state resources to embark on over six unannounced foreign trips since his assumption of office on November 12, 2016.

The party, in a statement in Benin, yesterday by Mr Chris Nehikhare, its state Publicity Secretary, also accused the governor of not explaining to Edo people what he has done with the N11 billion Paris Club fund the state got.

But reacting,  Chief Press Secretary to the governor, said:  “The attention of Edo State Government has been drawn to some accusations by the PDP reminiscent of a pot, calling an egg black, especially when smarting from political and electoral anxiety disorder.

“Very soon, I see them making dog bone an excuse for their failure. It is a sign of weakness and incapacity when you wrestle with your mate three times and you are defeated, to come back to say, ‘Oh, I wasn’t ready.

“The PDP is like a drowning man or a school boy who wouldn’t prepare for exams but heap blame on the teacher – he doesn’t like my face. I see Ize-Iyamu and his PDP cohorts as people who would use every excuse in the books to skip out,” the statement added.

PDP, continuing, said: “Our attention has been drawn to the frequent, unannounced state funded unending foreign trips embarked upon by Governor Obaseki. Since the elections, he has travelled out of the country not less than six times. He has jetted out again after attending Madam Ikhazobor’s burial in Lagos. What is he looking for?

“Unlike Mr. President, he doesn’t transmit power to his deputy as demanded by the constitution each time he sneaks out.”
