The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Buruji Kashamu, senator representing Ogun east.

Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the party, announced this after the party’s national executive council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Kashamu was expelled alongside three other members of the party in Ogun state — Bayo Adebayo, Segun Sarki and Sanimu Sodipo.

No reason was given for the action.

In December 2011, the party’s national working committee had in December 2011 handed Kashamu a one-month suspension.

Last year, Kashamu had approached a court in Abuja, asking it to stop the party from expelling him.

He had rejected his suspension at the time, saying it “offends all known principles of justice and fair hearing”.

The senator, who is alleged to have been involved in drug activities in the US, has been having a running battle with some of the party chieftains including Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state.

The party’s NEC also said it supports challenging the outcome of the just concluded Ekiti governorship election in court.

“As a law abiding Party, NEC endorsed the decision of the Ekiti state PDP to challenge the outcome of the just concluded guber election at the tribunal/court, with a view to reclaim the mandate of the party which was stolen by the failed @OfficialAPCNg at the election,” it announced.

The council also approved the memorandum of understanding recently entered into by the party and 38 other political parties.

“Consequently, NEC constituted a committee to work with other stakeholders of the party towards the overall success of all the political parties in the union,” it added.
