The Peoples Democratic Party in Katsina State on Saturday held special prayers for the late former President, Umaru Yar’Adua, who it described as the backbone of the party’s 16 years of governance in the state.
The prayer session was attended by various Islamic clerics and scores of PDP members in the state, all of whom prayed for the repose of the soul of the ex-president.
The session was held at the party’s state secretariat along Katsina-Kano Road.
The PDP Chairman in the state, Salisu Majigiri, during the prayer, said Yar’Adua laid a solid foundation for the transformation of the state, while his successor, Shehu Shema, built on his achievements to make the state what it had become.
Majigiri added that the late president would be remembered for his humility, resilience and commitment to nation-building.
He said “Yar’Adua was the only president that ever reduced the pump price of fuel and provided amnesty that led to increase in crude production. In Katsina, his landmark structures are all over and have stood the test of time.”
According to him, the late president proved that the PDP could offer democracy.
The PDP chairman added, “For us in Katsina, he is a true son.”
