Yola — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says that it is still hopeful that Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State will return to its fold before 2019 elections.
The state PDP chairman, Barrister Tahir Shehu, who spoke with Daily Trust yesterday, insisted that the party leadership had maintained communication with the governor directly and through emissaries.
“We are hopeful the governor will join us in the PDP in the near future and we will not relent in our effort to attract more people to the party . Two commissioners have resigned and return to PDP. We are still expecting more”, he said
Asked whether the governor had ever rejected their invitation outrightly, Shehu said “the governor never sent us away or rejected our proposal”.
The defection of the governor’s ‘godfather’, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to the PDP had fuelled speculation over Jibrilla’s political future.
Some observers believe that the governor could defect if Atiku emerges as the PDP presidential candidate for the 2019 election.
Few days ago, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh, issued a press release, debunking media reports which indicated that the governor had concluded plans to defect to the PDP.
