PDP wins state assembly supplementary elections in Bayelsa

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Munalayefa Gibson of Ogbia Constituency 2 and Mr Igbadiwe MacDonald of Southern Ijaw Constituency 4, both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winners of the supplementary election in Bayelsa State.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Pastor Udoh Tom in a statement said INEC conducted the supplementary election in 59 polling units in Ogbia and 53 polling units in Southern Ijaw of the State on Saturday.

According to him, the PDP polled 8, 983 votes, Mr Akongboine Alama of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 3,038, while Mr Awudumu Cleric of the Alliance Party got 397 votes in Ogbia Constituency 2.

He said that Igbadiwe of the PDP polled 27, 162 votes, Selekeye Victor-Ben of the APC polled 20, 886, while Mr Fawei Keme of YDP polled 1, 168 votes in Southern Ijaw Constituency 4.

The REC in the statement further said: “We also want to assure the information on the conduct of polls in Brass Constituency 1 will be communicated as soon as the restraining order by the court is dispensed with.”

It could be recalled that the PDP secured an interlocutory order from a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa to put the elections in Brass Constituency 1 on hold on the grounds of security threat.
