The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an immediate judicial inquiry into the clash between security forces and members of the Shiite movement, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Monday.
The party expressed worry over the handling of the crisis by the security forces adding that the rights of the protesters were violated and demanded an immediate inquest into the cause of the clash.
The party in the statement which was signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Monday said the clash was a show of force and infringements on the rights of citizens.
“The PDP has noted that the development is linked with protests over the continued refusal of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to release the leader of the group, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, despite being granted bail by courts of competent jurisdiction.
“The PDP and indeed all lovers of democracy across the country are deeply concerned by the continued erosion of democratic tenets by the APC administration, the statement read in part.
PDP also asked security high commands to ensure that the crisis is nipped in the bud with the highest level of professionalism.
