Two of the five policemen in the vehicle were severely wounded during the attack, leading to the death of one of the officers later at the hospital, apparently due to the shortage of blood.

While one injured officer is said to be responding to treatment, three others were unharmed during the gunfire, with the hoodlums making away with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the victims.

Delta State Commissioner of Police Mr Muhammad Mustafa, confirming the incident, disclosed that some suspects in connection with the attack have been arrested, adding that investigations had commenced.

This latest attack would bring the number of armed attacks on police patrol teams in Asaba to three in two months.

Two AK-47 rifles were reportedly taken away in a similar attack at Issele-Asagba two months ago. Another attack on a patrol vehicle occurred at a filling station in Ibusa in the state capital.
