Prestige Assurance Plc has introduced a travel insurance called Prestige Overseas Mediclaim Policy.
A statement obtained from Prestige on Sunday said the National Insurance Commission had approved the product.
Prestige said, “The product is designed as a comprehensive package, protecting all the eventualities arising while travelling and/or staying outside Nigeria at an affordable premium payable in naira. The significance of this product is payment of medical expenses incurred by the insured persons outside Nigeria, as a direct result of bodily injuries caused or sickness or disease contracted and other benefits.”
According to the statement, the scope of insurance cover to the travellers includes medical expenses and repatriation; personal accident; loss of checked-in baggage; delay of checked-in baggage; loss of passport; personal liability; hijack distress allowance; financial emergency assistance; travel delay; trip cancellation and interruption and bounced booking for hotels and airlines.
The company explained that POMP was specially designed to indemnify the legal residents/citizens of Nigeria travelling temporarily outside Nigeria for the purpose of business/holiday/employment/study.
While noting that the policy would be available for persons in the age group of six months to 70 years, it said in the case of travel to the USA/Canada, medical reports would be required for insured persons over 60 years.
Based on the needs of the travellers, it said the policies had been categorised into two segments such as worldwide cover and worldwide cover, excluding the USA/Canada.
It added that a special plan had been made available for those travelling to Asian countries.
“This product can be availed by Nigerians who travel for the purpose of education and employment outside the country up to a period of 12 months and subsequent renewals in case of their continued stay.
